Spiritual Practice: Coffee Mug Prayers

Coffee MugsEvery moment can be an opportunity for prayer.

As the hot water flows through the grounds and into the pot, or the water in the kettle begins to heat, you grab a mug.  You grab the mug that is closest at hand.

Then you notice it is the one you picked-up on your last vacation.

Or the one you got as a gift from a friend.

Or the one that commemorated some event.

What a great time to pray!

No matter if your choice is random or deliberate, embrace whomever or whatever comes into your heart – and pray.

As you sip or chug, rush to get ready or enjoy a lazy morning – pray.

Just a few thoughts, a simple acknowledgement lifted up to God, is enough.

(If you want to make your own mugs to put certain people, places or issues in your coffee mug prayer rotation, see this great DIY tutorial for instructions.  This activity would be a great addition to a spiritual retreat!)

Please share any other opportunities in your daily life that lead you to prayer!
