Prayer for Moms of Preschool Boys

God of Children, hear my prayer:

He goes off to play.
Those arms and legs,
Still not fully owned.
Those eyes filled with delight
and discovery
and hesitation.

Laughter and joy.
Wonder and yearning.

He watches the other kids,
Finding a way into their game.
They run, he runs.
They climb, he climbs.
Soon he is one of them.
Laughing and yelling
Tackling and playing.

A pack of cubs.
Learning to live.
Making their place.

My boy, my baby.
In the mix.
Testing the waters
Like we all have done.

But God,
This one is mine, my boy.
My special one.

He needs to tumble.
He needs to climb.
He needs to laugh.
He needs to scream.

I do my best to keep him safe,
But I know I have to let him grow.

Help me be a safe place.
Help me be a refuge.
Help me love him as you do.
Help me let him know.

My boy,
Running off to play.
An uneasy joy in my heart.

About SFriant

I live to walk with others on their journeys - because everyone needs to know that they are loved, that they matter, and that they are doing amazing things. I'm a lot like our two kids: obsessed with learning, and constantly creating.
