Prayer – Carpet Poop

God, he pooped on the carpet today.
I know you saw it.
Did you laugh?
I think I cried,
or at least I wanted to,
but I didn’t have the time.

They tell me it will happen.
He’ll learn.
We’ll stop buying diapers.
He’ll be a big boy.

But God!
I want to burn the carpet!
I want restaurants to have clean bathrooms!
I want to not have to yell “hold it” towards the backseat
as I frantically steer through traffic to find someplace to go.

We bought big boy underwear the other day.
I know you were there.
I let him pick.
He was so excited.
Did you smile with him?

I was excited too.
And a little scared.
This is one of many big steps.
One of many steps away from me.
One of many towards an independent life.

Lord, help me help him.
Give me patience.
Give me strength.
And help me smile and be joyful,
while I honor my tears and moans.

About SFriant

I live to walk with others on their journeys - because everyone needs to know that they are loved, that they matter, and that they are doing amazing things. I'm a lot like our two kids: obsessed with learning, and constantly creating.
