My official ministry employment includes helping with and going to funerals. A wonderful woman – mother and wife – who I never knew but has amazing grown children who sing her praises by just being themselves. The following hymn by Annie J. Flint, 1919, was hanging up in her house and it was included in the service. I think it says it all.
God has not promised the skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through.
God has not promised sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.
But God has promised strength for the day,
Rest for the Labor, light for the way.
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.
